What is Calorie Shifting
Now, you know that calorie shifting is a theory, on which some of the popular weight loss programs are based upon. in order to understand the idea of calorie shifting, we must have a basic understanding about body metabolism. normally, the body stores extra energy in the form of fat, so that it can use it in times of shortage. however, it has been observed that some people don’t lose wait, even after reducing the calorie intake. you may think that once you reduce intake of calories, the body will use up the stored fat, thereby causing weight loss. however, this may not happen, as the body gets adjusted to the new diet plan. Even though, it may cause an initial weight loss, once the body gets tuned up to the new diet, it compensates by reducing the rate of metabolism. this means that as the metabolism slows down, there will be extra energy, that will be stored as fat. this condition is called ‘diet plateau’. this is the reason why some of the weight loss diets simply don’t work.
Calorie shifting is an idea, that is based on body’s metabolism. As per this strategy, the daily calorie intake has to be fluctuated, so that the body does not get adjusted to the reduced calorie intake and slow down the rate of metabolism. As per the idea of calorie shifting, calorie intake of the body is planned on a weekly basis and the daily calorie intake will fluctuate so much, that the body cannot get tuned to it and reduce metabolism. so, even though, the calorie intake is reduced, the metabolism does not slows down, and this results in weight loss. in short, calorie shifting is a plan to confuse the body that there is no need to slow down the metabolism. Let us take a look at how calorie shifting strategy works.
Calorie Shifting Diet Plan
As mentioned above, a weekly calorie requirement is decided as per individual needs. but, the daily calorie intake vary drastically. this means, calorie intake will be high on some days, and low on others. this confuses the body, which fails to understand the reduction in calorie intake and so, the rate of metabolism will not slow down. All you need to do is to plan ahead for a week, so that you can calculate the total calorie intake for every day and the total calorie intake for a week. then, plan the daily foods according to their calorific value. A good calorie counter can be of much help in fixing a calorie shifting menu. If you daily calorie intake is decided as 1,500 calories, as per calorie shifting diet plan, some days you have to stick to that value and on other days, you have to either decrease or increase the calorie intake.

However, consult a nutritionist, before resorting to any of the weight loss programs based on the idea of calorie shifting, as very low calorie intake may cause problems, like, dizziness and fainting, on those days, when your calorie intake is reduced. according to health experts, the daily calorie intake should not be reduced to a value that is less than 1,200 calories. Even though, calorie shifting is one of the popular theories adopted in some weight loss programs, there is no scientific backing for this.
