Getting through Army boot camp?
Any info is useful. Personal experiences….. my weakness is running, cardio – I need to work on it. Whats the longest they run you at a time. And how fast are the marches. I want to train and make sure I can keep up. thank you.
u wont have to worry about the army vote camp
its never been hard
plus now they made it even easier
and added stress card so recruits that cant take teh pressure
can have a time out..
kinda sad its even easier than air force now
dont worry ull do fine
if u were joining Marines thats something else
thats hardcore
My husband is a Sgt in the Army and he has said that boot camp isn't as bad as they want you to think it is. they don't do anything that is too hard, because they need everyone to get to the same level, so if your good at something it will seem easy but if you lack, and are hurting, it will be harder and push you. they run you for at least 20min and usually at a pace that is broken down into groups A ot of it is just harder mentally. Good luck…..
Honestly you can overprepare yourself. The main thing to remember is that you are with a whole bunch of people that are just as clueless as you and its all a mind game. there will be people that can do it that are in a lot worse shape than you are. The military knows that you arent in the shpe they want you to be in so they are professionals at transforming you. Dont worry, keep your ears and eyes open and you'll be fine.
I just got back from boot camp. And honestly, everyone will tell you a million different things. just go in expecting the worst. You never know what your gonna expect, and you never know what the drill srgts. are gonna pull. It's not as bad as it seems though, trust me. I would advise that you join a gym, or if you have a treadmill USE IT. thats the best thing you can do for yourself is run, run, run. they can run you as long as they like there. Remember when you get there, that its a team effort. there is no YOU. It's YOU AND YOUR BATTLE BUDDIES. If you go down, everyone goes down. have a positive mind about everything, don't take the drill srgts TOO seriously when there giving you crap, and yelling at you. Understand they are doing their job, and in the end, only making you stronger. Your gonna have a lot of rough days, and your gonna want to quit. But keep in mind, that everyone is having the same thoughts you are, lol. You will make sooo many great, longtime friends. I wish you the best of luck, and god bless!
Where are you going by the way? I was in Ft. Jackson, S.C.
Running was never my thing in Basic. unfortunately, the longest run you do depends on your leaders. The marches usually aren't fast, unless you're short like me you should be able to keep up. If you are short, you're screwed.
Back to running, on PT tests you'll do a 2 mile run. You have a certain time you have to beat which depends on your gender and age. I suggest working yourself up to 3 mile runs before going to basic, that way a 2 will seem easier.
When I was in . you had to run a mile in 8 minutes, What many of us did was run full blast, right from the start. consequently, we were almost dead by the time we only ran 1/2 mile, and had to really struggle to finish in under 8.
The sgt set us straight. just stay with the pack for 2/3 of the run, THEN pour it on for the last 1/3.
I could then do a mile in 6 minutes.
The marches usually cover 3 miles in an hour. 120 paces per minute.,
Sure, speed in important, but the Army is looking more for endurance than for speed.
Work together as a team,. encourage one another, you'll be just fine.
The Army doesn't have boot camp, that's the Navy and Marines. What the Army has is Basic Training. Can't really help you with the running part as I went thru basic in 1969, and the speed of the march is dependent upon the length of the march. I have, however been on 5 mile 'fun' runs, although I never considered them to be very fun and have also been on at least 1, 20 mile forced march (my poor feet).
It'll be tough, but when you get out, you'll be surprised with what you've accomplshed.
Good Luck!!!
We don't go to boot camp. we go to basic training.
It depends. Usually the farthest we ran was 3 to 4 miles towards the middle and end of basic. The PT test is only 2 miles, so it's not too bad if you're used to running more than that.
Army standard for ruck marches is 4 miles per hour. Rucking will help with your run, too, believe it or not.
