SIR WILLIAM SMITH

Personal trainers are usually licensed by state/county/city. Check your state website for the links to "doing business in the state of XYZ". the website will tell you what activities are regulated and thus require license etc. they tell you how to set up a business there and what documents/fees/licenses are required.

Remember also, if you leave LA Fitness, WHERE will you do your training? those clients go to that location for a reason. why would they want to leave a full service gym, clean, licensed, insured, to sit in your hot dirty garage with old, limited equipment, no smoothies, and no insurance?

So now you need to lease a decent space and buy good equipment and get insurance…… can you do that without a job?

Stay where you are at. If you really believe this is a passion, do the research (#1) so you know what you are required to do legally. Set up a savings account to save for the lease $, equipment, insurance etc that will need. Take more time to learn the "business" aspects of personal training. this effort may take years. But if you stick to it, you will be more successful.

As an interim option, you may also consider "renting" space at a gym like a stylist rents space at a salon. still have access to the gym and equipment, but you are an independent contractor instead of employee.

Legal business success does not happen overnight. it takes TIME and committment.
