Signed up last month in the Army for 11x (Infantry). I ship out of Phx, AZ to Fort benning, GA on the 27th (6 days from now). Just wanted some personal experiences/info on basic training/advanced training for Infantry. Also, whats GA/the east like? Furthest I've been is Texas. LOL. Do you think I'll get deployed asap? Also, my friend chose Medic and went to the same base but left like, a week or two before I did. Think I"ll see him?

Well I did my basic training there in 1959. Hot, humid, when it rains the red clay mud will cause you all kinds of grief. the bugs and other wildlife (snakes) are a force to be reckoned with. when it is not raining the sand and dust will make you wish you were somewhere else, but with the possible deployment to the middle east I wouldn't let a little heat and dust bother you. My training cadre were all recent combat vets that returned from Korea, yours will probably be similar only difference yours will be combat vets from the middle east. Listen to what you are being told, keep your mouth shut, and learn as much as you can. your life and your buddies life may very well depend on it.
